Brady turns 19 next month. . .
Mathews played in the NHL at 19 (few days apart birthdays)...
granted their not the same player but not that far off
Tkachuk will play in the NHL season, maybe not the entire season but he should at least start here; on a line with Brown and White |

When I turned to 19 I lost a bet and had to delete my account.
Was better than being a welcher though. |

Opening night is certainly going to see some young guys in the line up. Chabot and White are locks. I also think Wolanin looked very good near end of season and can win a starting position out of training camp. Formenton already has NHL speed, head and hands; I think he plays on the #1 line with Duchene on opening night. I think Tkachuck should go to Belleville. Remember, after Christmas we are going to see trades for picks and prospects. There will be lots of call ups. My estimates for sophomores and rookies getting NHL starts next year (subject to injury) are:
Chabot (82)
White (82)
Formenton (82)
Wolanin (82)
Jaros (40)
Chlapik (40)
Tkachuck (30)
Brown (30)
Batherson (30) |

I don't think anyone (other than maybe a couple of nut jobs) will state that the sens NHL product is remotely close to the same level as the leafs right now. that being said, I think that's a very solid group of young prospects, on par with what the leafs have.
that being said, a lot of your young guys (Matthews, nylander, marner, dermott) are at the NHL level, so it's a bit of an unfair comparison.......but none the less, I think the sens non-current nhl prospects are at least as good as what the leafs have, if not better. |

I think this is "the year" of full transition for the Sens. Whatever happened to disrupt the team last year it has triggered the beginning of a comprehensive rebuild. Dorion says three years to playoff contention.
Assume Karlsson, Duchene and Stone are traded for prospects and/or picks. My heart tells me that I don't want to see any of those guys traded. But my head tells me something very different.
If you add three years to the ages of Karlsson (31), Duchene (31) and Stone (29) it becomes clear that rebuild means total turnover and converting top assets into picks and prospects.
It is very easy for fans to convert over and support a young team.
Sens had great run to Conference finals followed by a disastrous year. Blowing it up and going full rebuild mode will prove out to be a gift to everyone. Priority now becomes player development and giving appropriate ice time for the kids.

Solid post.
Hey you never answered my question on what you felt was a fair/reasonable/realistic trade between Edm and Ottawa for EK?

What does Mathews age and Birthdays have to do with anything? I know he is a high draft choice, but comparing him to Mathews, who was pretty much an elite NHL player as a rookie and one of the defining players of his generation is Retannered.

I think....or I hope......that he meant Matthew (as in Brady's brother). If not, he's insane |

Draisaitl and your 2019 1st
There is literally nothing else (other than obviously mcdavid) who I'd want from edm |

Why on God’s green Earth would Edmonton do that?
And you’re stoned if you don’t think one of about a solid dozen Oilers players could crack the Sens roster and make a positive impact. |

Where did I say they couldn't.....i simply said they aren't worth Karlsson
The only player on your roster or system worth Karlsson (not counting mcdavid) is draisaitl
You ask why would EDM do that......I ask why would Ottawa do it for any less |

I'm sorry. I did not see the question.
Yamamoto and Bouchard would be a huge ask.
My guess is Edmonton would want Sens to take back a salary.
So, perhaps, NuHop and Bouchard |

Draisaitl for Karlsson (even up) is probably a good deal for both teams. But, I don't think Ottawa would do that deal because they would be reluctant to take on the long term dollars of Draisaitl's contract.
How can you tell a deal is close to reasonable? Both fan bases believe they are giving up too much in relation to what was offered in return. |

I have always thought that Edmonton would be somewhere in the middle of a Karlsson trade. Wherever Karlsson goes he will be wanting an 8 year deal for very large money.
I have always been intrigued by the idea of Karlsson being traded to Nashville, Subban goes to Edmonton. Ottawa gets combination of prospects and picks from both teams. |

If Edmonton makes a pitch for Karlsson, you know Calgary will be snooping around in the background. |

Well I’m not suggesting Ottawa is desperate , but EK is 11months away from The Oilers signing him as a UFA if they want to convince him it’s the place to be.
Also Edmonton would be nuts to trade Draisaitl straight up for Karlsson in the long term, let alone through in a 1st.🤮 |

You are right as far as value goes. The best offensive defenceman in the League at 30 years Old , taking up 11-13 Million per in cap space till he’s 38.
Or
A big talented 22yr Old franchise quality Center under contract for 7 more seasons @9m
No way does Edmonton need to through in a first. I would hesitate to the deal, but I can’t see us affording Karlsson while keeping Draisaitl and his contract. |

Karlsson turned 28 in May.
While the Sens are less likely to get a major package in return for Karlsson with each passing day, a team is going to have to give up something significant just to make the cap work assuming they want to sign Karlsson long term.
I don't think Edmonton/Ottawa will ever work a deal. Just doesn't make a ton of sense from both sides. |

Sorry. 29 once his new deal kicks in.
It makes plenty sense. It will make even more sense when your sitting here a year from now wondering why Dorian didn’t get anything for Duchene, Karlsson or Stone...but yeah, having Draisaitl on that roster would make no sense, especially considering his age and talent level. |
